Plant two Mini Kabocha Kurinishiki seeds per pot, later clipping off the weaker of the two seedlings. Harden your Mini Kabocha Kurinishiki seedlings before transplanting following our hardening off guide.
#2 | About a week after the last frost or when the soil temperature in your area reaches is over 70 degrees F, plant your seedlings in very rich soil 8-10' apart in rows 10-12' apart.
#3 | Since squash seedlings do not tolerate frost, provide protection if cold weather threatens your Mini Kabocha Kurinishiki. Keep the soil moist at all times, but avoid getting the leaves of your Mini Kabocha Kurinishiki wet as this can cause diseases.
#3 | When your Mini Kabocha Kurinishiki squash begin to develop vines, add a layer of mulch. This mulch layer will help conserve moisture and control weeds. Your mulch will also will keep your squash plants from having too much soil contact.
#4 | By midsummer, pinch off all the blooms to concentrate the plant's energy on the developing squashes.
#5 | Your Mini Kabocha Kurinishiki squash can be harvested as soon as the stem begins to dry and the skin becomes too hard to pierce with a fingernail. Because cold weather can damage squashes, they should be harvested before the first frost.
Note: Do not plant pumpkins and other squash family crops in the same spot 2 years in a row.
